Hunting Prince Dracula (Stalking Jack the Ripper #2)
Goodreads Rating: 4.34 / 5 Stars
My Rating: 5 / 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Recommend to: Anyone who loves a good amateur, macabre investigation.
Brilliant writing, amazing characters, and even better plot twists. This tale of intrigue and mystery is one for all who enjoy a good murder mystery – or even better – enjoy catching a career killer.
In this New York Times bestselling sequel to Kerri Maniscalco’s haunting #1 debut Stalking Jack the Ripper, bizarre murders are discovered in the castle of Prince Vlad the Impaler, otherwise known as Dracula. Could it be a copycat killer…or has the depraved prince been brought back to life?
Following the grief and horror of her discovery of Jack the Ripper’s true identity, Audrey Rose Wadsworth has no choice but to flee London and its memories. Together with the arrogant yet charming Thomas Cresswell, she journeys to the dark heart of Romania, home to one of Europe’s best schools of forensic medicine…and to another notorious killer, Vlad the Impaler, whose thirst for blood became legend.
But her life’s dream is soon tainted by blood-soaked discoveries in the halls of the school’s forbidding castle, and Audrey Rose is compelled to investigate the strangely familiar murders. What she finds brings all her terrifying fears to life once again.
I adore Maniscalco’s writing! She is perfection at writing dark, macabre and twisted stories. This is the second book in the series called Stalking Jack the Ripper (SJTR). If you haven’t read SJTR yet – definitely go and read it! This series is pretty dark and gruesome. Just a warning for anyone easily creeped out by death/ bodies. Also, I only read these books during the day because I easily get nightmares.
Anyway, back to my review. This book was really good. The plot was super exciting. If I compare it to the first book – the plot twists were not as good but still just as twisty. If you haven’t read SJTR the next bits might have some spoilers.
I adore Audrey Rose. She is such an interesting and independent character. After the tragic events of the ending of SJTR – Audrey Rose is struggling to deal with everything around her. My beloved – sometimes completely idiotic – Thomas Cresswell grows a lot in this novel. He understands how little he knows about emotions and woman. He does some stupid things in this book but lets be honest – no one is perfect.
The setting of this book is GOLD. I love the setting of Bran Castle in the Carpathian mountains. The setting of a very scary and haunted history is the perfect place for Audrey Rose and Thomas Cresswell to start investigating a string of murders.
I also love how Maniscalco gives a woman in the 1880s a sense of independence. She is determined to work and do what she loves. She will not be hindered by anything and I really love this feminist theme that runs through the books.
THESE PLOT TWISTS THOUGH!
I really hope that you will read the Stalking Jack the Ripper series! I’m definitely going onto the next book soon. And Capturing the Devil (the last book in the series) is coming out in like a week! How exciting.
Happy Reading !
